Khi Infinite is Creating His Own Reality

20-year-old Virginia native, Khi Infinite, is a distinctive storyteller that pushes one’s emotions to the forefront. Elegant melodies and soft afro-bouncing drums allow his laid-back sound to lose control of the mind and body, hypnotizing your thoughts like a pendulum with every swing through the air. Infinite’s name fits him well as upon one of the first listens, I immediately was struck at the sonic maturity that was developing at just the start of his career. I kid you not Tidal says I’ve accumulated over 120 total streams to his past EP, TAKE WHAT YOU NEED. Becoming totally immersed made me run laps around this project and understand why it caught the attention of various publications such as LA Leakers and Ones to Watch. The genre-defying up-and-comer returns to the release circle with his new single, “MISSED CALLS,” released under music label APG.
Taking a risk from his prior sound, Khi ends 2021 on a high note after taking an unexpected turn with speaker-rattling 808s and smooth vocal delivery that grabs you from the jump. Produced by Dabid Schaeman and Orion Meshorer (the same producers from Infinite’s “LOVE FOR YAH”), expect the perfect winter record for the days ahead, as you might just go for a ride in your feelings. Infinite tells the story of one of the hardest moments in his previous relationship caused by poor communication of true feelings and leveling out, something we all can relate to. Making this one of the most anticipated releases coming from the artist; confidently, I will tell you this could be his biggest single yet.
We had the opportunity to talk via virtual press conference and get to know more about Khi and what’s ahead.
What brought you to become a recording artist?
Sh*t bro, I’ve been around it my whole life. My father is a recording artist, my mother writes music, and helping my little brother. At first, I was an All-American track athlete, breaking records when I was living in Virginia. After graduating high school I started working and knew I couldn’t do this.
What was one of the first moments you realized that people were listening to you?
A few months ago I noticed people on Twitter starting to retweet my art and support like that. I don’t even use Twitter like that… what I do is let my thoughts out and I don’t even direct people to follow. So when I saw people start uploading slowed versions of my music on youtube I knew.
Stepping out from Virginia and changing scenery, what were some of your fundamental beliefs that have helped you function personally and career?
Consistency… investing in yourself constantly. Most people can’t accomplish stuff on their own so don’t be afraid to ask for help. Seriously.
So tell us, what is the significance of “Missed Calls”?
"MISSED CALLS" is a song I wrote on the very last day of my last relationship. The relationship was super unhealthy and at many points felt extremely toxic. Ultimately, I was unhappy almost all the time and knew deep down that I was just delaying acknowledging the truth that it wasn't going to work out. Every week, I found myself in the same cycle of falling in love and then being let down, and all the ups and downs started to get the best of me. The day that I wrote this song I got a text from her saying "why we keep having these conversations?" and that was the line that sparked the inspiration for the song. We were never really on the same page and that's what led to me ending the relationship and writing this song.
What has been one of your biggest struggles?
Definitely would say the inspirational block that I have put on myself. Sometimes there’s moments when I can crank out eight songs in a session, and others when I can only get a hook out. Another one that I have run into has been creating the space and honing in on my reality since we create our own realities.
So then do you have routines to create or does it vary?
It definitely does vary depending on what’s happening around me. Such as what mic I’m recording on or how much space I have to move around
How do you relax after these stressful days?
I sit back and listen to my and others’ music. I’ve got a few songs I like from my boy @kenncash
What are some of the next experimental genres you’re doing with your sound?
I’ve been wanting to get more into afro-type beat and I have family in Nigeria that I want to visit.

Like I spoke about at the beginning of people creating their own reality, you can do what you want to if you set your mind to it. Don’t forget to ask for help in any way, don’t be afraid.
