SMOKENMIRRORS – Dave Coresh • '22 Staff Picks
Dave Coresh's debut EP SMOKENMIRRORS struck the deepest chord for me in 2022. Centered on self-healing and shedding old traits, Coresh dives into heavy issues of unequal relationships, heartbreak, and individualism on this project.
With electrifying guitar riffs and head-banging drums, Coresh underlines his advocacy for self-confidence, a recurring theme across all six tracks, on the opening song “NOBODY CARES.” His “I don’t care” attitude supplies fuel to his unique delivery, which inspired a new perspective on how I should focus on loving and respecting myself.
To the tune of punk-rap, Coresh’s blunt truths feel like a punch in the gut as he gives advice on how to deal with tough internal conflicts. His free-spirited momentum grows as each track builds into an intense, in-your-face feeling that leaves me questioning my own people-pleasing habits.
After getting the opportunity to talk to Coresh, I was able to confirm that the strong energy I felt in his music matched the individual. During our chat, he detailed the level of despair, hope, and courageousness that came from operating in the music scene for over ten years. As we laughed and exchanged stories about our own beginnings in the industry, I felt grateful for my six-year journey and for what the future holds. For anyone in need of a brutally candid slap-in-the-face, I highly encourage you to give this project a chance.
