Gearing up for her debut solo project, Jamila Woods grabs our attention today with the release of a new single and the announcement that she will be joining Chicago independent record label Closed Sessions. The news comes by way of Billboard in which she premiered the song "blk girl solider" this morning. Listen to the song here.

Musically, Jamila has garnered the most attention to date through her work with Chance The Rapper & The Social Experiment, most notably with her show-stealing part in "Sunday Candy". Prior to that, her duo M&O (once named Milo & Otis) had carved out a special place in hearts of local listeners a couple years back with the release of a pair of projects - Almost Us (2014) & The Joy (2012). Looking forward, Woods is ready to step into the spotlight as a solo artist, and we couldn't be more excited to see her do so.

Ms. Woods joins a Closed Sessions roster which is already home to Kweku Collins, oddCouple, Boat House and Kipp Stone. Over the last few years, CS has done a great job doing their part in helping cultivate the local music community. Something sure to continue with the release of Jamila's debut solo offering. Stay tuned to These Days for more on the story in coming weeks.
