Looking Ahead • Pitchfork Music Festival 2018

Summer activities are in full swing. It’s already mid July, and no surprise that the recent weeks have been packed with compelling events, parties, and music festivals to attend. I have high hopes that most of us have recovered from Mamby, and are refueled with anticipation for Chicago’s next big weekend at Union Park. Pitchfork Music Festival is now only a day away, and this year’s lineup shines with local and neighboring talent.

The next three days are going to be filled with some local favorites, and notable out of town visitors. Saba, Melkbelly, and Tierra Whack are all standouts on Friday’s lineup. You’ll also be able to see bands and performers like Big Theif, Syd, Tame Impala, and more. Step into Saturday ready to groove with names like Paul Cherry, Blood Orange, and Girl Pool. Pitchfork wraps up Sunday, with a star studded lineup of local names including Noname, Kweku Collins, Ravyn Lenae, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, and Smino. Additional Sunday performances include DRAM, Ms. Lauryn Hill, and Kelly Lee Owens. You might have some spare time in between artist sets, finding yourself unsure of what to do while waiting for a show to start. Luckily, Pitchfork has a number of festival additions for you to visit.

The 13th edition of the independent festival will offer new and returning features you’ll want to make time in between sets to visit. If you’re searching for new room décor of your favorite artist, or are willing to spend time rummaging for a unique print, the poster fair might be the right spot for you. Speaking of willingness to search, the CHIRP Record Fair might have the one record you’ve always wanted, or that one record you didn’t know you always wanted (if you're lucky they'll have both!). Renegade Craft aims to support artists and creatives in advancing the creative economy, there’s sure to be unique finds you won’t get anywhere else. In addition to the previous features, Pitchfork will also have a Book Fort as well as the returning Kids Zone by Music House School of Performing Arts.

This year also introduces Pitchfork's PLUS upgrade feature, catering to festival goers with exclusive allowances. If purchased, you'll be able to experience expedited entry to the festival, “Come and Go” re-entry access to the festival grounds, shaded seating areas, and more. PLUS will be worth it if you're looking for a perk filled festival experience.

Gates open tomorrow at 12pm, with the box office being open from 12pm to 7pm (box office hours are 11am to 8pm Saturday and Sunday). And if you find yourself unable to attend pitchfork, or eager for more music, make sure to check out one of the Official Pitchfork Music Festival after shows.
