2012 brought the emergence of many Chicago acts, but aside from the drill scene most others remained very underground and unfortunately unappreciated. One example of a great act that many are guilty of napping on is duo Retrospect comprised of Quotes and Def Poet. This pair initially showed up on my radar with their ShowYouSuck collaboration "Abella (Remix)", but they went on to confirm my interest with 2013's The Breakout: Part One. 

Since releasing their debut EP, the duo seems to have gone into hibernation mode, sending an occasional email or tweet my way as reassurance that they are still in fact working and Part Two is on the way. I won't go as far as saying the wait is over, but there's some movement in the Retrospect camp as they deliver the first single and video for The Breakout: Part Two featuring vocalist Daryn Alexus. Produced by Chris Classick of Classick Studios and directed by Adebowale Adesuyi (aka Def Poet), "Heard 'Em Say" is a welcomed return for the Spect and sets the bar nice and high for Part Two. No pressure guys.
