Round Up • New Releases From Calez, Katie Got Bandz, MB Jesus & More

Each week the These Days staff comes across great music from Chicago artists that we could not provide individual features for. In an effort to keep our readers up to date with more of our recent favorites, the Round Up segment provides quick summaries and additional noteworthy content. Check out our latest picks below and feel free to submit a comment if you feel we missed something.

Calez • "Nirvana"

2008ighties henchman Calez is prepping to let loose his Network Trappin' EP. Taking an aesthetic of old dial-up modems and retro desktop pixels, his project plans to be released on the first of 2016. The lead track "Nirvana" dropped over the summer but the video just recently surfaced, with Calez vibing around a park, coolin' by some monuments, and preparing for liftoff in a spacesuit. Directed and edited by Calez.

Fredo Santana • "Better Play IT Smart"

With the world at its craziest lately, Fredo Santana adds to the mayhem with a clear threat to someone in "Better Play IT Smart". The moral of the story is simple, play it smart and keep your mouth shut. Listen to Fredo's latest loose single while we wait to find out what else the SSR CEO has in store for us in the new year.

ICYTWAT • "Council Christmas"

Ominous Chicago vocalist/producer ICYTWAT, who appears to only exist on the Internet, let loose "Council Christmas" just in time for the holidays. The bizarre and obscure number pays homage to his collective Divine Council and sounds about drug-fueled as possible when it comes to the otherwise heartwarming and cheery Christmas. If you need more ICYTWAT, be sure to grab the free video game app The Adventures of Gallardo, of which he provides the soundtrack.

Katie Got Bandz • Drillary Clinton 3

We know how Katie's voting as Drillary Clinton 3 hits the newest election cycle. That's where the analogy ends, because while politics are an overwhelmingly unhappy affair, DC3 might be the most fun Katie Got Bandz has ever had on the mic. There's an infectious energy to her style, going against the stereotype that drill has to be dreary. She's a gymnast when it comes to lyrics, in a way that's almost a paradox when considering her barking flow. The beats are more manic than usual and accentuate the the mixtape's sped-up craziness. Answering the question of "what have you done for me lately?", Drillary Clinton 3 is Katie's best project in a minute...vote Drillary in 2016.

MB Jesus - 9INE-5IVE

MB Jesus is a member of God's crew (purveyor of the Gospel and The Bible mixtapes, recent signee by Juicy J, and current heavyweight champion holding down the "hardest names to google" belt). Seriously, try finding his mixtape. MB Jesus is best known for his slim jim stature beef with Slim Jesus, presumably over who got dibs on the messiah's name. But despite that sillyness, 9INE-5IVE ain't bad! Definitely hit-or-miss, but there are some legitimately good tracks here, and starting with a remix of one of the greatest intro tracks ever ("Tha Mobb") is a sure way to grab my attention. Some standouts are "Dilemma", "Moe Momma House" and "Overtime". Go to church? To be decided.

Quentin Miller (Ft. Vic Mensa) • "Half"

Quentin Miller, perhaps best known as Drake's alleged ghostwriter, decided to place a proper spotlight on his creative outputs with his newest release Hey! Thanks A Lot 3, a fourteen song mixtape featuring tracks with producers Hit Boy, Salva, and more. In relation to Chicago and TheseDays, Miller linked with Vic Mensa for "Half", a track that sounds like four woozy minutes in the club. Produced by Needlz and Donut.
