Logan Cage • Still Iconic

Logan Cage has become a staple of the Chicago rap scene. A wordsmith, a workaholic, a live force on stage; he’s been putting in the hours for years now, and in a way it seems like all that time was building up to this moment. To get 100% straight to the point - this is the Logan Cage you've been waiting for. See, Logan’s talent has never been hidden to those paying attention, but it seemed like he was still unsure of what his vibe was, a man of many bars and many hats. No longer. When I listen to Still Iconic, I hear the artist now called Logan Cage stepping into his own, blasting any doubters and letting his music speak for itself. Logan has always gone surprisingly minimal with his music (in fact, its one of the few common complaints you’ll hear against him), and what stands out now that he’s not trading subtlety for energy. His music here is deep, intense, and made for repeat listens.

The raps are just as complex as before, but there's an aged patience here, with Logan taking the time to tell his story, transporting you to a window looking through his perspective. Production has always been an important key to what Logan Cage creates, particularly from his longtime associate Flight (did it), and while I’m having a hard time finding the production credits it sure sounds like Flight, and let’s just say whoever did it crushed. The backdrops of this project are straight up eerie (this is a FANTASTIC October EP), providing a landscape of shadowy streets and allies for Logan and his inner-most thoughts to guide the listener through. And my thoughts? I firmly believe this project could change things for Logan Cage. I don’t think there’s any question, Still Iconic is the best Logan Cage yet, and this is only the beginning.

Sidenote: We never got a chance to post Logan Cage's final sneak peek at the album yesterday, "Dr. Cage". If you're waffling on whether to listen to the project, check out this song and the choice will be clear.
