Saba (Ft. Noname) • "Church / Liquor Store"

It’s coming real soon. Saba has been giving more and more peeks at his long awaited Bucket List project, and anticipation is starting to boil over. Let’s be honest, we all know it’s going to be good. But damn, todays drop of “Church / Liquor Store” up and raised my expectations even more. Dangerous game! Maybe for those who can’t back it up. You never, ever expect anything less than the truth from Saba. His music rings universally, whether you’re from Austin or anywhere else across the country. In the case of "Church / Liquor Store” he finds relatability in describing the struggle of accepting or rejecting the realities of wherever it is you may call home.

Produced by Cam O’bi, the beat wraps itself in unwound warped tape, in the vein of “Everyday Struggles” or Noname’s incredible “DiddyBop” (also produced by Cam). The nostalgia of the beat is a perfect contrast to the less rosey truth-telling Saba provides (memories are just that, memories).  The raps are everything here, a buffet of bars from Saba and Noname, the latter who demolishes the last verse of the song. Saba is the star, rocking an evolved flow, perspective and song writing ability visible to any listener. It’s really the last part where you’re starting to see his undeniable growth as an artist, and let’s just say we can’t wait to hear what else he has in store for us.
