Over the last few years the scene locally has grown immensely, that much is clear. However, that growth wouldn't have been possible without the minds and ideas to help guide the art of those creating in and around the 'Go. One of the best incubators for such work has been happening at none other than Columbia College which houses the AEMMP Hip-Hop class. The program, run by Closed Sessions co-founder Alex Fruchter, has been a catalyst for those learning the business from the ground up and this semester has teamed up with local up and comer, Ajani Jones who we linked up with for the premiere of his latest single, "The Fall" featuring a TheseDays favorite, Femdot.

The track itself is a dope representation of the direction Ajani, formerly known to fans as Anak1n, finds himself with newfound backing. The 22-year-old Columbia College student and frequent collaborator of Banks The Genius and Noah Sims is gearing up for a new EP just after the new year. TheseDays • Take us through the concept of this track?

Ajani • The song is a take on falling toward the lowest you can as you see the big picture in front of you. The chorus paints that picture. "I'm calling your name out" talkin to god or talking to your inner self to be stronger and cope and make a change despite these issues. 

TheseDays • How did this collaboration come about?

Ajani • Firstly, my mans Walz snapped on this record. I've worked with him a lot lately we've been collaborating since 2013.  I had the idea for the record and got the verse down. I came to Shao Doja and told him my idea he wrote the chorus and then Femdot got it and went crazy on his verse it was a similar perspective so we had to drop it like this. 

TheseDays • What's the Ajani have in store for us? How does this single tease the project?

Ajani • In store i have another single that's dropping this week with the the Columbia Music Collective titled "Liberators" that features a close friend of mine in  OregnA. Aside from that I have a small project that's essentially an ascension from the artist I used to be. ASTRALS is really just me leveling up in sonics, songwriting, and execution. This is an introduction to a new artist. Versatile art, good vibes only and relatable songs that you can sing back to. 

TheseDays • What's the experience working with AEMMP been like?

Ajani • Working with AEMMP has been fun. We have some dedicated people organizing events and setting a standard for this release and as the process comes to an end we have more music in the vault ready for affirmative action. 

TheseDays • What should folks look forward to from Ajani in the future?

Lookout for new sounds. Different sonics. I've been working with a producer named Blookah. Get familiar with him because his name is all over the next project after this. I can't repeat this is enough, good vibes, good vibes, good vibes. Setting a precedent that is positive, smooth, bouncy and if you love women, eternally blissful.
