DRAMA • Gallows

Over the course of the last year or so, we've been happily blown away by the work that has manifested from the close friendship between a pair of locals, Via Rosa and Na'el Shehade. Apart, they are supremely talented and successful in their own right but together they've created something truly special with their DRAMA project, for which they released their much anticipated debut album, Gallows.

The duo carved a niche for itself last year with a string of releases that paired Shehade's eclectically uptempo if sometimes brooding production with Rosa's endlessly nuanced vocals and penchant for lyrics dealing in the sometimes murky waters of love, acceptance and, well, drama. The result is one of the more fun listens you'll find all year and comes at the tail-end of a year that has seen many and far-reaching drops from all sides of the city. With a huge ceiling before them, we expect Gallows is just the start of much more. During a Q+A session I hosted earlier this year at Soho House for the pair's listening party for the project, the passion and excitement both have for their work was readily evident, and shines through similarly throughout here. Check it out for yourself above.
