Chris Mathien is an A-1 sonofabitch. Seriously though, you'd be truly hard-pressed to find a guy like him and we at TheseDays have largely been lucky enough to be around while he's been making some of our collective favorite music over the last few years. Today, dude turned up once again with a really nice single, "Whim" that once again finds the ladykiller ruminating over the small, fun intricacies and thoughts that come about when your slipping down the slope of love. As far as songwriting goes, perhaps no one is able to straddle the world of pseudo-indie rock and the hip-hop world than Mr. Mathien who works a Freaky Nasty "When I Dip You Dip" reference into this decidedly different toned track.

Touching on women's ability to make the lesser sex feel like a king after a long day, Mathien sings, "Your beauty makes me feel like a rich man." Always a talented writer, in recent years it's been really fun to watch Chris continue to develop his work from afar. Having moved down south to Knoxville at the top of 2014, we weren't all sure what to expect but his Unique Man was easily his best work to date and contained plenty of tracks that stay in regular rotation today.

The man calls it 'Alterna-soul' and I can't argue with that billing. Dig into the latest from that particular genre, steaming above.
