David Ellis • Black Semester 2

See this content in the original post

David Ellis and frequent collaborator Ric Wilson debuted as FYI (Fuck Yo Institution) late last year and have been raging against the machine ever since. With thought provoking rhymes about real issues, often issues that hit close to home, many may toss David into the conscious rap category, but his music won't allow him to fit into that mold easily.

Premiering his first solo effort in over a year, David Ellis gives us "Black Semester 2", a collection of stories about saving his alma mater Chicago State University. The Illinois state college with a predominantly black student body fell victim to major budget cuts this past semester and was even in danger (and still is) of being shut down completely. David Ellis dives into evolution as a black man, a student, and a young warrior that fought to save his opportunity for higher education.
