Round Up • New Releases From Famous Dex, Quotes, Rockie Fresh & More

Each week the These Days staff comes across great music from Chicago artists that we could not provide individual features for. In an effort to keep our readers up to date with more of our recent favorites, the Round Up segment provides quick summaries and additional noteworthy content. Check out our latest picks below and feel free to submit a comment if you feel we missed something.

Famous Dex • "Ok Dexter"

In this new generation of rappers like Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, and Lil Yachty, we must not forget about the young rising star out of Chicago, Famous Dex. Creating a catalog of hits throughout 2016, this week he continues his run with a brand new song, "Ok Dexter". When it comes to versatility in rappers, I would have to consider Dex as one of the best out right and "Ok Dexter" is just another example of him displaying his various flows over a heavy hitting trap beat.

Quotes • "Gemineye"

Chicago knows Quotes from his work with Def Poet as Retrospect, but Wednesday he dropped "Gemineye", the first single from his debut solo EP. With help from Je$$e of theWHOevers, Quotes shows his inner Gemini rapping about his love for fashion and material things while still managing to maintain a level of humility that keeps me listening to it over and over again. Check out "Gemineye" and keep and eye out Suburban Kid McFly EP soon!

Rockie Fresh (Ft. Rick Ross & Casey Veggies) • "Your Life"

Rockie Fresh is back in full effect it seems, and if his new video for the "Your Life" remix is any indication, looks like he's got the full support of his Maybach Music Group comrades as well and continue to spit those vigorous bars that made us all fans of the MC in the first place. For a while I was wondering what happened to the Driving 88 superstar, had the deal gone sour? But according to the video all is well as Rockie along with the rest of MMG celebrate the 4th and their success at MMG Weekend. Rockie hasn't forgotten about his people, as you may see familiar Chicago faces such as YP who makes many cameos thru-out. There's a statement here other than a day with Rockie Fresh, the visual screams unity. Click play below and experience Rockies modern life.

theWHOevers • "R U Down"

Not to be confused with Tupac's "R U Still Down", theWHOevers both get their crooner on to ask these potentially trifling ladies "R U Down". In an era when internet dating has become the norm, "R U Down" addresses the sometimes painful process of getting to know someone new. Je$$e aka J. Arthur produced the record with an assist from 88til on the piano, giving the record that smoothed out vibe that Je$$e has been championing as of late. Are you down? Take a listen.

Warhol.ss • "GDay Freestyle"

After releasing “I Don’t Know You” back in June, we know Warhol.ss has zero patience for fake people. For his latest track, "GDay Freestyle", he’s paired up with a team of producers – Uglyfriend, Brentrambo & Sky – to tell us that you better not talk too much unless you plan to put in work and back it up. Stream “GDay Freestyle” below and watch out for more from Warhol.ss this year.
