Nnamdi Ogbonnaya is a name you may have seen across all sorts of contexts in Chicago's music scenes. The Chicago artist does it all (background as a drummer), and has been impressing in hip-hop for a minute now as well. "hOp Off" is one of the first times I really gave a solid listen and you've got to give credit, this a song that's killing the venn diagram of 'unique" and "catchy'. Different across the board, "hOp Off" features a searingly hot minimal beat featuring a whole lot of flute, and a flow from Nnamdi that's unstoppable. But what's most exciting about this new artist is how different he sounds from everyone else in the game right now - an artist to watch by every stretch of the phrase. He's got a new project, Drool, coming out March 3, and you can catch him at Subterranean Feb. 25.
