Ric Wilson • Negrow Disco EP
We said it in our January cover story for this year and have been doing so for the last two years, but Ric Wilson is poised to be the next artist to burst from the crowded and bubbling scene happening here locally and continued to prove as much with his four-song EP, Negrow Disco which hit the internet publicly on Monday April 17.
Playing off tropes of dance music based in the center of the map, Wilson complements both his periphery and the sounds and aesthetics that got him to this point throughout the densely-packed collection. Since entering the new year, Wilson seems to have discovered a newfound understanding of his sound while immersing himself in a deep well of talented musical minds across the city that have come to dictate the next wave. If that wave has a distinct voice, it's certainly looking to be Wilson, who dropped the project on the heels of his debut headlining show over the weekend at Schuba's that came just under a year removed from a rousing set on the Chop Shop stage competing for a spot on the North Coast lineup that largely vaulted him to the space he now presides over. With a talented offering that touches on the intricacies of footworking sound from the midwest, Wilson appears poised to make good use of the next year similarly. Get into Negrow Disco now.
