LUCKI • "WHO YOU REALLY KIDDING?"
Lucki is set to drop Free Wave 3 any day now and if you’ve kept an eye on his Twitter lately, you’re probably just as eager to hear it as he is to share it. There are no official singles from the project out yet, but Lucki has implied online that FW3 is his best work in years. And while it’s certainly a tall order, the underground legend has hit a stride that started with the Days B4 II EP back in April and continued with a couple of loosies released by recent collaborators.
“WHO YOU REALLY KIDDING?” was unleashed by New York producer AR last week and it might end up on his own EP in the near future. It’s also an interesting precedent to FW3. With assistance from Plu2o Nash, the bleak soundscape serves the Chicago emcee well as he delivers the following marquee bars: “trying to put my past behind me, but it’s tatted on me too” and “say you know me from them licks, probably must have been on you.” It’ll be up to the listener to decide if FW3 lives up to the high expectations that his early catalog has established, but Lucki is focusing on the present and firing on all cylinders.
