Following the release of Omar Apollo’s first video of 2019 for the “heavy-hearted but hopeful” “Trouble,” the burgeoning first-generation Mexican-American singer is back with a livelier new single off his upcoming EP.

Co-produced alongside Blake Slatkin, the funky “Ashamed” buzzes with mild blues licks, pairing delightfully with Apollo’s falsetto and a thumping bass line. He coolly sings: “don’t need you in my life / it’s not that I don’t love you baby” before dwindling in the outro and softly admitting “I can’t get you out my mind.

The Indiana native premiered the song via Zane Lowe’s World Record radio show on Tuesday morning, but you can now stream it on all platforms. There’s no Chicago date on his forthcoming North America tour, but we’re hopeful he’ll end up in a festival line-up this Summer.
