Looking Ahead • Russ @ Bottom Lounge 10/30
Atlanta's Russ is making his way to Chicago Halloween weekend after a year of constant releases and one of the hottest records out right now, "What They Want". The singer/songwriter/emcee gathers influences from all over to combine for Russ' style balanced somewhere between hip hop and R&B. Whether it was his time growing up in New Jersey or later in life while in Atlanta, Russ has used his history to create a strong independent movement filled with a barrage of content releases and a seemingly never-ending tour life.
In the midst of a tour at the moment, Russ most recently released another self produced single, "For The Stunt." Nearly, if not all of his work, Russ is the man behind the soundscape on his records as well as the songs' lyrics. A self-sufficient entity, limited only by the hours in a day, Russ is a shining example of what independent music is capable of in today's marketplace. With superstars like Chance the Rapper at the forefront of this labelless transition, Russ is helping making the trend a more permanent way of life among musicians.
For Russ' latest outing, he's embarked on a 33 city tour that kicked off in Vancouver last weekend and wraps up in Ft. Lauderdale at the end of November. Most readers are here to learn about Halloween weekend event at Bottom Lounge though, and here's what we know.
