Dre Day 2016

Double Door • February 19

21+ • $10-15

Returning for its 8th year at Chicago's Double Door, the annual Dre Day party presented by These Days, Ground Lift Media and Burlesque of North America continues to celebrate the birth of one of the greatest musicians of all time, Dr. Dre. Ringing in his 50th birthday this year on February 18th, Dre Day follows the next day with live performances of classic west coast tracks by some of your favorite local names, as well as a Nate Dogg tribute, Rap Karaoke, a Glitterguts photo booth, Crip walk contest, and so much more.

Dre Day has gone from a one off event in Minneapolis to a national party that is now present in over a dozen major cities including Chicago. This year is their 8th in Chicago, but may be its last at Double Door if the legendary Chicago venue ends up losing a battle against the continuing gentrification of Wicker Park. The venue that has once hosted performers like The Rolling Stones, Rise Against, and countless other music greats is under threat of eviction and currently being disputed in court with the buildings landlord. The case is currently continued until February 29th and in the meantime Double Door will continue to host events.

Lucky for us, Double Door keeps its doors open for Dre Day on February 19th so the event can host one of its most lively lineups yet. The night will be hosted by Psalm One of the Rapperchicks and Awdazcate and includes a special Nate Dogg tribute performed by J Arthur of theWHOevers and DJ sets by Deejay Intel, Maker, DJ Trew, B.O.A.T. (Big Once and Trentino). Headlining the night is drummer and producer Makaya McCraven and his band The Chronic. Makaya's music is strongly influenced by soul, jazz, funk and hip hop, making his sound a perfect fit for a bouncy west coast inspired evening.

As always, make sure to drop by the Glitter Guts photo booth for a keepsake of the night that you and your friends can cherish forever. Cop those pre-sale tickets now and save a few bucks, but in any event make sure to get their early, you might be one of the lucky 100 to receive a limited edition Dre Day t-shirt.
