Under overcast skies in late October, diffused light poured into the South Facing Windows studio. Set up alongside the southern wall was an off-white bed sheet turned backdrop. Tasha, fitted in a black top and leather pants, sat against this dual-purpose background, grinning towards her accompanying bandmates across the room. Here, we delved into her most recent album, Tell Me What You Miss The Most.

The 10-track record is a tender proclamation of acceptance following the dissolution of a long-term relationship. With the album as her outlet, the Chicago-based artist took “a curious and intentional dive into [her] heart” channeling the pain of separation into themes of “missing, sorrow, joy, and dreaming.” Both introspective and compassionate, Tell Me What You Miss The Most creates nuance out of the break-up narrative, providing solace to both artist and listener.

Tasha recognizes that comfort comes in many forms. As she put it, this state of ease contains “various textures.” Whether it be a warm blanket, an early morning cup of coffee, or remembering the fond embrace of a lover, comfort draws you inward. For her sophomore album, the soft-spoken artist wanted to pick apart these layers, as well as create something that her audience would be able to resonate with and hold onto.

From personal experience, Tasha gravitates towards albums and music that “are not just something you can sit and listen to but something that really brings you into the world […] that you can carry with you through various moments.” Creating a sound that adheres to the listener is no easy feat. However, vulnerability is a catalyst for connection and Tell Me What You Miss The Most bares it all.

Accompanied by Austin-based songwriter Christelle Bofale and fellow Chicago-based artist Fran, the album’s tour is being kicked off at Avondale’s Sleeping Village. Serving as her first live performance of the album, Tasha is feeling thrilled.

As she put it, “it’s been a long time since I’ve done a proper venue show with the band […] The songs have been written for a long time and I feel like I’ve been holding onto them for so long that it will be extremely satisfying to release them into the world.”
