Chicago's Own Assist with Neko Case's Newest Video, 'Man'
Singer-songwriter Neko Case, most known for her solo work and member of Canadian rock band The New Pornographers has released a new video for her 2013 track "Man" from her Grammy-nominated release The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You. The visuals were directed by Chicago's own Austin Vesely who directed videos like Chance The Rapper's "Sunday Candy" and Kehlani's "The Way" this year. Vesely is currently working on another project with Chance The Rapper (via Instagram) and his first feature film titled Slice.
The video's 1st Assistant-Director is Elijah Alvarado whose resume includes Chance The Rapper's "Hey Ma" and touring with Good Charlotte's The Madden Brothers. Elijah's recent animation work with Chicago rapper Probcause featuring the likeness of the Wu-Tang Clan and Bill Murray also recently went viral. Director of Photography comes from Nathan Salter, another Chicago filmmaker who recently worked on Eryn Allen Kane's "Slipping" and was the Cinematographer for "Sunday Candy." The video's Production Designer Kelsey Fox (music videos, film, commercials) also has strong Chicago roots.
Considering most of the previous work mentioned from all the collaborators happened after this Neko Case video was shot in 2013, it's a testament to the careers these creatives have constructed since. The video is being released now because of it's feature on Neko Case's new vinyl box set titled Truckdriver, Gladiator, Mule. Check out some earlier work of some now-buzzing names in the video below.
