Chance the Rapper's Second SNL Appearance A Success

Chance The Rapper made his second solo appearance on Saturday Night Live last night, reprising his role as the musical guest for SNL's holiday special. While we've seen Chance perform on the SNL stage several times before, this time around the young rapper was able to participate in a pair of skits in addition to the two performances as the show's musical guest. Joining Keenan Thompson, Leslie Jones and a cameo by DMC, Chance and company offered up a comedic rendition of the Run DMC classic "Christmas in Hollis" and Chance returned later in the show as one of the three wise men.

As for the musical performances, Chance prefaced in the week leading up to show that he wanted to perform songs from Coloring Book that he hadn't yet done on national television, a list that was running short due to how much primetime he's seen this year. His first performance saw him joined by Noname for "Finish Line / Drown", a moment that had Chicago Twitter buzzing shortly after as the Telefone rapper's appearance was a surprise to most.

For his final performance of the night Chance chose the very personal and fan favorite, "Same Drugs". Beginning on piano before letting Francis & the Lights take over before the song's breakdown, Chance stumbled slightly going into the second verse, but recovered gracefully laughing it off with a grin on his face. Both songs were backed by the Social Experiment's Greg "Stix" Landfair Jr. & Peter Cottontale, along with a fantastic arrangement of musicians and singers.

Following 7 Grammy nominations and countless appearances throughout the year on everything from SNL to Ellen, Chance is without a doubt the music industry's darling. While he often keeps his next move close to the chest, Chance is sure to keep surprising his fans and making Chicago proud.
