Kweku Collins • "Hoopdi"
Kweku Collins must not have a lot of hobbies. I'm not saying the guy isn't interesting but I swear we seem to get something new and interesting from the kid at least once a week, if not more. Following closely on the heels of his appearance on last week's CS release, Spicy Caliente, Collins returns here with a decidedly more chilled situation on the new one, "Hoopdi". Per usual, Collins also handles the production end of things despite having Odd Couple and Boathouse, one of the better one-two punches in the city, at his disposal.
It's been a year of growth for Kweku from signing to CS to dropping his first EP and that ride continues as the single release arrives alongside an announcement of a Closed Sessions-sponsored Boiler Room showcase in NYC. Details on that one are available here, but initial reports have Saba, Mr. Muthafuckin eXquire, Boathouse, oddCouple, Your Old Droog, and DJ Rude One all joining Kweku onstage for what should be a refreshing step out of town for the outfit.
