My Gold Mask • "Connect"
The brand of electronic inspired pop rock that My Gold Mask pushes is not exactly a genre I spend a lot of time listening to, but with each release the local band is quickly winning me over. After catching them by chance at Double Door sometime in late 2013 or 2014 and again at the Chicago Made showcase at SXSW that same year, My Gold Mask impressed me with their passionate stage presence and the powerful voice of the band's lead singer Gretta Rochelle.
Breaking out onto the local indie rock scene in 2010, the band as you see them today wasn't formed until drummer James Andrew joined the former duet made up Gretta and guitarist Jack Armondo. Since 2013, the band has dropped their only full length project to date, Leave Me Midnight, headlined a national tour, and are now getting back to new music with several singles dropping over the past few months. Leading up to the release of their album ANXIOUS UTOPIA on March 4th of next year, My Gold Mask delivers an anthem to their fans called "Connect". I dare you to play this just once.
