Jean Deaux (Ft. Smino) • "Don't Kall My Name"
It's only been a month since Jean Deaux released her three-song EP, Outer Body. Entirely produced by THEMpeople, the quick release is a soulful blend of hip-hop and R&B, both oozing with crackling vintage and futuristic synths. Cosmic might be the best word to describe it. This makes sense given that one song is titled "Saturn's Return". All three songs come and go a bit too quickly, demanding multiple listens and all the while waiting for more content, like her next full-length Soular System Vol. 2.
Thankfully, more content arrives today in the form of "Don't Kall My Name", a thumping song we are happy to premiere via TheseDays. The song is the first proper collaborative release between Jean Deaux and Smino, although it's been rumored that Deaux is directing Smino's upcoming music video "Raw". 100% Chicago through and through, this whirlwind of a single comes produced by THEMpeople, who have steadily been slaughtering the behind-the-scenes game in 2015. Jean and Smino both rap their asses off on this bass-heavy groover, sounding like chugging a cup of coffee during a smoke break.
Expect more heat from Jean Deaux as we enter into 2016. Expect more heat from Smino as we enter into 2016. Expect more heat from THEMpeople as we enter into 2016. Expect more heat from Chicago as we enter into 2016. No wonder it's 50 degrees in December.
"Pawn ass n****s tryna school the rook.....Don't look too fast, you might catch the hook."
