Smino • "Blkswn"

Smino releases his first track in a minute, and it’s a doozy. Has anyone seen such a takeoff in the last year or two as the Chicago via St. Louis rapper? He’s got a scrolls worth of hits already, and his new song “blkswn” is one more success to add to the list. It’s typically lush, slow, heavy, and I would say a return to his “blkjptr” sound versus his more summery tracks. A little darker as the name suggests, “blkswn” features some of my favorite Smino vocals in months, bouncey and methodical, and the production is the perfect complement, cloudy with just a hint of light peeking through. Smino describes the difficulty in resisting our baser instincts and the two sides to ourselves that we all have. As far as music goes, if you need that guarantee there's few artists performing out of this city that can be considered so dependable with tunes so consistently exceptional. No sense over describing it, just dive into "blkswn" and see what Smino's done this time.
