Premiere • Lucas G • "Sorry" (Ft. Blu)
Chicago artist and producer Lucas G comes to us today with a brand new premiere featuring West Coast legend Blu. The story behind the track is one every producer dreams of, Lucas simply reached out to the rapper for a feature Blu. When I spoke with Lucas, he told me Blu's 2011 album Her Favorite Colo(u)r "basically got me to start making music." From there the rest is history, Lucas eventually sent over some tracks and Blu hopped on "Sorry." Lucas went on to say "Blu had rapped on his own productions, so I produced and wrote this single in tribute to that." Getting Blu on that very tribute? A beautiful story of inspiration leading to collaboration.
The song is an introduction to producer Lucas G and a co-sign of many hip-hops favorite rappers is a great place to start. "Sorry" is the all too familiar tale of the positive and negative forces any artist, creative, hustler or entrepreneur faces. The negativity of losing relationships of the past but celebrating those painful decisions that led to success. Blu jumps right in and further relates to the challenges from his West Coast Point of view. You can tell Lucas G is a longtime fan, the fluttering beat easily sets up Blu to cap off a track perfect for a sunny rich blue sky day.
Up next from Lucas G, a series of singles with West Sider Jimmy Ain't Shit among many more planned releases to be announced soon. Lucas might be a familiar face to some around the scene, as he also DJs for Sicko Mobb and Saint Millie.
Blu released an album titled Bad Neighbors in October of last year in collaboration with fellow rapper M.E.D. and producer Madlib. The album also feature Mayer Hawthorne, Dam-Funk, Aloe Blacc and more.
