Joey Purp (Ft. Saba & theMIND) • "Cornerstore"
After dropping a trio of rap for sport songs in "Run It Up", "Performance Art Freestyle" & "Morgan Freeman", Joey Purp delivers the first single off his long-awaited debut album iiiDrops. The song, dubbed "Cornerstore", sees a return to form for Purp, vividly dishing recollections of impactful life experiences of navigating through the city's unsettling realities. The backdrop comes courtesy of Thelonious Martin, who utilizes added instrumentation from Donnie Trumpet, Peter Cottontale, J.P Floyd & Knox Fortune. Additionally, "Cornerstone" marks Purp's first collaboration with fellow Westside rhymer Saba, as well provides a reunion between Joey and theMIND who had worked together on some passed work such as "Prophet".
The collaboration couldn't have been timed any better as all three artists on the brink of big summers. This one is sure to be an essential Chicago summer '16 track so we recommend listening loudly, rewind often.
