David Ashley (Ft. Bobby Swan) • "Strictly 4 The Heads Pt. 8"

life

Over the course of the last month, Chicago artist David Ashley aka Convertible Ashley (formerly of JODY) has released eight songs that all fall into the continual, ongoing playlist known as Strictly 4 the Heads. Simply titling the tracks with their release numbers, he's been giving the world one or two a week since its inception. Always containing scenic outdoor imagery (all which I imagine comes from his iPhone), Strictly 4 The Heads is exactly that: a forward thinking yet simple project meant for the real ones, the savvy, the aware, the “woke”.

Despite a minimal number of plays, these songs have serious depth, impressive range, and always strong production. Perhaps as a means to pay attention to timeliness, the most recent track comes in collaboration with producer Bobby Swan, who has made the rounds around these parts on numerous occasions. The two collide on the eighth part of the series to speak about recent struggles, news headlines, and tragedies that coat our country.

“And another one bites the dust again,” he begins, continuing with:

“Life wasn't going so well and we in hell again, and another blunt went around the room, took another second to inhale again, saw another dead body on the television, made it harder to excel again.”
