Dreezy • No Hard Feelings
Dreezy’s debut album, No Hard Feelings has all the makings of a proper major-label release. There’s the established radio hit (“Body”), the heavyweight features (Gucci Mane, Jeremih, ,T-Pain and Wale) and the overall polished feel of a project that surely went through several different stages before Dreezy and her team landed on the final product.
Unfortunately, this also means that the project has a couple of lackluster attributes such as its drawn out length due to the six skits that are supposed to loosely tie-in all the songs, and the fact there were no real risks taken in production or subject matter. Nonetheless, from the straight-rapping records (“We Gon Ride,” “Spazz”) to the slow jams (“Close To You”) and everything in between, it’s hard to deny that Dreezy has indeed presented us with a very complete body of work that performs well in all the right spots. For most of the 13 songs included here, there’s a personal and honest feel to them highlighted by Dreezy’s versatility as a singer and rapper that allows her to shine even amongst the legends that took part in the album.
It’s been a long road for the Chicago artist --who first garnered online buzz with local collaborations, her Schizo mixtape and then the infamous “Chi-Raq” freestyle, before being picked up by Interscope in 2014--but No Hard Feelings is a testament to her resilience over the years and now it’s time to celebrate by streaming below via Apple Music and pre-ordering here.
