Yung Creatives • Isis Nicole
Yung Creatives is a monthly panel curated and hosted by These Days' Jake Krez at Soho House Chicago. To provide added insight on the talented young people taking the stage during the next discussion, we've decided to pair the event with a series of digital features. Over the upcoming weeks, we'll turn the spotlight on each member of the forthcoming panel one at a time.
Isis Nicole is an Ohio native with the gift of having a huge imagination and DIY spirit. Isis’ ambition and several inspirations led her to start her own in-print magazine Isis Nicole Mag in 2013. Hailing from a small town in southern Ohio, Isis learned to take to the world wide web to explore more of what was hot in other cities. “I grew up in southern Ohio and spent most of my days watching movies, or listening to music, or reading magazines, or chatting on AIM.” explains Isis “It was my way of traveling, getting exposed to stuff outside of my hometown.” she adds. Isis also has a business partner and creative director of IN Mag, Hannah Black to attribute her inspiration to continue curation of the magazine. The duo met at a Glossier event at the W Hotel and really hit it off creatively.
The first issue of IN Mag was created simply by Isis purchasing disposable cameras and giving them to contributors. The photos gave an organic and nostalgic feel to the magazine. IN Mag is also know for putting a spotlight on independent artist and creatives who Isis and Hannah genuinely want to tell the stories of. The latest and 4th issue of IN features a cover story of the rap collective Barf Troop and was photographed by well-known photographer Charlotte Rutherford who has worked with Paris Hilton, Marina and the Diamonds and most recently, Amber Rose. The progression of IN Mag over the past 3 years has been quite remarkable. “This is our first time being in stores outside of Chicago, and our first time being sold in a shop internationally.” says Isis.
The vibrant colors and graphics of IN Mag is what will stand out along with the start from scratch concept. “I’m proud to be a business run by two women in our early twenties. It’s a dream come true to be able to offer a vulnerable space for artists to thrive.” says Isis. Not wanting to be boxed in as just a women’s magazine, the IN Mag team has overstepped boundaries to prove that it has something to offer that every magazine reader can enjoy. IN Mag will be having it’s 4th issue launch event at East Room on January 14th at 10 p.m.
