Everyday of every week, the TheseDays team is here to help you keep track of the latest happenings not only in the world of music, but in the world you see everyday as well. This week has been especially crazy though. Chicago invaded New York City as Taylor Bennett and Vic Mensa both arrived in the city for headlining gigs at SOB's and Webster Hall respectively and stopped by to give local radio a taste of the midwest while Chance continued a long-sought wining streak, OJ Hays stepped out with a new commercial and a hometown designer offered up some new threads for the latter part of summer. Check it all out below!

OJ Hays Debuts First Commercial

It's not just the musicians in the city that are making a mark on the world at large. As Joey and Vic talk about in a video further down the page, there is an infrastructure that exists to support and accentuate the work of musicians, an industry unto itself and no one exemplifies that side of the scene better than OJ Hays, who last night made good by debuting his first commercial, an animated joint for Magnificent Coloring Day on none other than 'Fallon'. The thirty-second spot served to announce Chance's day-long 'Magnificent Coloring Day' festival at Comiskey Park on Chicago's south side and was an obvious choice as Hays has been a consistent source for the soX gang, developing logos, background animations for tour and much more to help establish the collective's general aesthetic. Shout out OJ man, this is really cool!

Joey Purp & Vic Mensa Shut Down 'Sway in the Morning'

We've been trying to tell you for months, but if you still aren't aware of the SaveMoney summer we're currently basking in, you've truly missed out. Don't worry though, there's still plenty of time to get in tune and last night Joey Purp and Vic Mensa stopped by Sway In The Morning fresh off their tour-opening set in Washington D.C. the night before to literally blow the top off the show in a back and forth freestyle that left everyone in the studio decidedly breathless and me laughing from behind a hand on my face. It's amazing to be able to talk about a Chicago Renaissance that actually has the legs and agency to continue on for a long time. These two definitely have the staying power and they brought along Mensa's fan, Mitch, who recently connected with him via a phone call on a flight home. Get into it all below, 38:00 mark for the bars.

Chance The Rapper Nominated for MTV VMA

Ah, the year of Chance continues. As if 2016 could get any more exciting for the new father and Coloring Book artist, the Chicago native once again tallied another memory this week, being nominated for his first MTV Video Music Award for 'Best Music Video' for "Angels" with Saba directed by Austin Vesely.

The pair arrive at the 2016 awards show facing off against Desiigner's "Panda", "Hotline Bling" from Drake, "Don't" by Bryson Tiller and "Watch Out" by 2 Chainz. Chance and Vesely last found themselves up for an award when they were nominated in 2013 for an MTV Woodie for their work on Chance's "Everybody's Something" visual. That win served as a sort of minor league win that sets them up well for prime time. We can only keep our fingers crossed as the independent hometown kids once again face off against the vaunted industry. Stay tuned for more on the awards show which airs August 28.

OG Brand Unveils 'Doodle Collection'

The city is taking it's future into its own hands more and more each day and one brand in particular that has developed considerably in the last year or so once again emerged with a new line for the sunny months here in Chicago. OG Brand unveiled its 'Doodle' collection over the weekend. The brainchild of Olivia Goodman, the line is a somewhat simplistic yet chic take on clothing inspired by her birth year, 1992. The designs are clean and complimentary and the accompanying visuals that arrived as part of her look book add a neat aesthetic for the line as a whole, expounding on the photos taken by our very own Bryan Allen Lamb. Olivia's been making some really great strides over the last year, last stepping out with her 'Ghetto University' release that was featured by artists and personalities like Stix, Towkio, Joe Freshgoods and many more. Check out the full look book here and fork over some cash for a unique piece of your own at her official web store, available here

Taylor Bennett Appears on Late Night With Peter Rosenberg

The word wave and the idea of such was a theme often played with throughout the rollout of this latest onset of young talented musicians in Chicago. From SURF to Mick Jenkins' The Water(s) to Towkio's debut, the idea has been evident in one form or another for a minute now, especially interesting as we continue to see the manifestation of the 'next wave' of youngsters poised to keep the city standing in the center of the hip-hop and music scenes for years to come. At the center of that follow up is Taylor Bennett, who this week stopped by Peter Rosenberg's 'Late Night with Peter Rosenberg' to talk with the legendary Hot97 DJ ahead of his debut NYC headliner on July 28 alongside Supa Bwe and more.

Uniquely positioned as the younger brother of arguably the biggest breakout star of the last five years, Taylor has always seemed to handle himself well in varying degrees of situation and shows off that Bennett charm throughout here. Having been proud of the kid for awhile now, watching him grow from a wiley high schooler to a young man strategically playing his part. Here, he begins to demonstrate that to the rest of the world. The wave hits New York City this week, pick up tickets here if you haven't already!
