Kweku Collins • "Delilah"
Kweku Collins isn't leaving 2015 quietly. Instead, the teenage singer/rapper/producer is continuing to release quality music that places him high in the rankings of Chicago's freshman of this year.
From releasing his Worlds Away EP back in January to signing with Closed Sessions over the summer to his label debut Say It Here, While It's Safe EP, Kweku's releases have been meditated, meticulous, and well-rehearsed. He hasn't released any flops or any songs that have sent him walking backwards. From loose singles to strong full projects, Collins spent most of 2015 focused on solo endeavors. He had WebsterX on a couple tracks, and producers BoatHouse and oddCouple both helped with production assistance, but for the most part, 19-year-old Kweku was releasing solo music hand-crafted by himself.
That's all changed recently, as we've seen photos of him in the studio with Malcolm London, as well as a recent track alongside the #ISM legend GLC. Yesterday, Collins' list of collaborators grew even more with the catchy single "Delilah". Produced by Stefan Ponce with guitar assistance from Julian Bell, the song is a perfect sing-a-long, one to warm you up in December, and one to demand playback once spring/summer returns to the Windy City. Premiering over at The Fader, it's obvious that Collins is on the right path for greatness. 2015 was one hell of a rookie year, but let's see what he does in 2016 as a sophomore.
