Walkingshoe • "Can't Sleep"
Singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist Walkingshoe is one of the more versatile talents residing in the Windy City. From complex and heavily-layered instrumental albums (listen to The Future Will Kill You) to producing for some of the biggest artists in the area (Towkio, ShowYouSuck, Rich Jones), he extends his portfolio even further with his newest single "Can't Sleep". Handling all of the instrumentation on his own, as well as vocals, the song is a folk rock hit, one that would fit perfectly in a car commercial or a cell phone advertisement. We heard him dabbling with this sound earlier in the year with songs like "Pancho & Lefty" and "Deal With You", but this one is 100% original, 100% Walkingshoe, complete with original lyricism and a hook that will stay in your head for days.
"Can't Sleep" is the lead single off of Walkingshoe's upcoming EP, Hennie and Me, which you can expect at the top of 2017. Consequence of Sound handled the premiere and compared Walkingshoe's sound to Phoenix and Modest Mouse, but I'd compare it more to early Flaming Lips. Regardless, he's in good company.
