SLUGS • A Chicago Producer Album
Last week, I released a Chicago compilation album known as SLUGS. Ten songs in length, each track is released by a different producer. All hand-picked, all Chicago. Even the artwork is done by Chicago native Stefan Meier (formerly Zooted Living). These Days regulars Bengfang, A Billion Young, and Bobby Swan all stop by for assistance next to SEER and Kevin Carey. Ando (of now defunct The-Drum) and a dog (lowercased) (of now defunct Supreme Cuts) lend their instrumental talents to tracks "Highway is a Life" and "NEXUS". Although rare, vocalists do stop by, like Morimoto on Zookeeper's track, or MWII on his own self-produced song. Stepping outside of Chicago, Bay Area's Squadda B (of influential duo Main Attrakionz) runs wild over an instrumental from Sea Things.
While this is more or less the follow-up to Tokens, the producer album we released back in April, it is sonically something completely different. Featuring ten names, some well known, some lesser unknown, the album is deeply experimental. Almost entirely instrumental, each song seems to craft its own subgenre, blending infinite elements between hip-hop, electronica, R&B, footwork, industrial, and noise. It's one for the curious, the abstract dreamers
Expect another album from us in the fall.
