Ju, bleeklino, Yomí, Melo Makes Music • "Sleeping"
First hand account: Earlier this summer, I invited a bunch of talented vocalists and musicians over to producer Jaro's home studio for an impromptu session. Seven Chicago-based artists arrived and created the track "Sleeping". On this song, you will hear vocalists Ju, bleeklino, Yomí, and Melo Makes Music. The production was handled by Jaro and BoatHouse, with additional synths courtesy of Morimoto, guitar courtesy of bleeklino, and harp courtesy of Yomi.
The session was a blast. I was the only person in the room who didn't touch the track. Everyone was either working on their verse or thinking how to add more instrumentation, more production layers. The television played nature documentaries on mute and everyone seemed infinitely inspired by the ambiance. At one point during the session, bleeklino screamed, "The harp sounds so good!" He later defined Yomí's instrument as sounding like a "guitar piano".
While this was the first attempt at impromptu Chicago collaborations within Jaro's home studio, it certainly isn't the last. We currently have two demos resting in the vault, and plenty of other sessions planned down the road. Don't find yourself "Sleeping" on this ongoing series of weekday heat. Sorry for the dad pun.
