Joseph Chilliams • "Powerpuff"
Perhaps nothing is more fitting for Joseph Chilliam’s playful rap style than an intro featuring audio from a cartoon that first aired in the last millennium. Taking an assist from Townsville’s most famous residents, Chilliams’ newest single, released ahead of his upcoming debut project Henry Church, is a sub-3-minute window into the PIVOTgang rapper’s inner monologue.
Rapping over an old-school minimalistic beat, Chilliams presents his signature blend of humor with aggression, keeping the track comedic while maintaining its intensity. He spews confidence while sprinkling in self-deprecation, finding a balance that so few are able to achieve.
Chilliams’ star is bright, and if this single is any indication, his debut project will only add fuel to his fire.
More Joseph Chilliams
"Studio Ground Rules,” the third single off the yet untitled project, is a rundown of the Pivot Gang etiquette.
Loaded with an ammunition of unruly verses, hooks and refreshing flows, Saba, Joseph Chilliams, MFnMelo and FRSH Waters individually yet, collectively held their own on their latest track “Blood”.
Taking a step back and acknowledging the bigger picture, the triumph of Pivot Gang’s You Can’t Sit With Us is what makes it even more exceptional. The album feels in service of each other first and foremost which in turn makes it a labor of love.
