ChiBrations • Avantist

UPDATE: ChiBrations returns with part 2 of Avantist's in-studio session, this time with an exclusive performance of the band's single "Tidalwave" from last years self-titled LP. While Avantist revisits their last project, their focus quickly shifts to the future as the gear up to hit the road in July and follow up their tour with a new album, their first being released by Sony Records / The Orchard. It's clear things are looking up for this family, why not share them with yours?

It's that time again and ChiBrations is back with more Chicago songwriters and musicians to introduce to your ear drums. Avantist, a four piece band of brothers (literally) is the definition of their band's name. New, unusual, experimental, these local bred siblings are having a productive year following the release of their self-titled LP in late 2016.

Before Fernando (vocals), Erick (bass), David (guitar) and Luis Arias (drums) hit Soap Box studios in Humbolt Park, they grew up children of a musical household, inspired by their father's career in mariachi and later a DJ. Beginning to make music of their own in their early teens, Avantist has years of experience under their belt and a bond that not many other groups share.

Categorizing themselves as prog rock or hispanic rock, but Avantist's sound and direction is hard to fit in any one genre. For example, their choice of cover for this month's ChiBrations feature is far from their self defined "lane." Watch the Arias brothers dive into Travis Scott's "Goosebumps" above.
