We often witness history in the making without realizing it. In Chicago, it damn near happens every day. At These Days we strive to document these subtle moments and the artists that create them. Timestamps is a new video series set on capturing the nascent careers of creatives adding to the city's cultural legacy. A snapshot of the now meant for future dissection and appreciation. Days after releasing her new album For My Own Entertainment, Sophia Galaté invited us out to see her take the stage Lincoln Hall as she returned home to celebrate it with the city that helped shaped her musically. The next day, we had the opportunity to connect with her further at VSOP Studios where she recorded the album.
If you saw Senite now, the way I see her on this cold day in the city that she loves so painfully, you'd understand just how much evolution and transformation had to occur to transmute all the chaos into art and something hopeful.
Spike Carter is a fun-going boy band who personify late night drink specials, regretful texts to your ex (you’re secretly glad you sent), and that extra shot of Malort you knew you should’ve passed on more than they fit the traditional “I want it that way” Backstreet Boys template (although their single “Shake” could give anything Max Martin has written a run for its money). If any group embodies Chicago’s welcoming and easy-going attitude, it’d be Spike Carter.
