WGCI's DJ Timbuck2 Passes Away at 34
Sad news coming in as the weekend begins as reports have begun to surface on Twitter and across the internet that longtime WGCI and beloved member of the Chicago hip-hop family, DJ Timbuck2 has passed away from what appears to be complications from cancer.
While early reports are scarce, Timbuck2 has had a low profile over the last month or two and his own Twitter page hasn't been updated since November 17. It's a sad day for sure here in the 'Go as Timbuck2 was an instrumental connector between the music that was being played on the radio and the music that was being made in the streets around the city since getting on air in 2004. Since then, he has helped put on for local talent like Jeremih, Rockie Fresh, King L, Spenzo, and Chance The Rapper, as well as many others.
A member of Treated Crew, Timbuck was an early supporter of many current acts as well as FakeShoreDrive, Ruby Hornet, Closed Sessions and many more mainstays from around the city. Arriving at WGCI as their youngest mix DJ in the station's history, Timbuck2 earned himself a spot in the vaunted heavy hitters collective. He also served as one of the front and center faces at WGCI with his rush hour traffic mix and gave many acts from around the city their first opportunity to get on-air. We'll all be missing you Timbuck2, rest in paradise.
We'll continue to update this story as news becomes available, here's an unreleased mix from Timbuck2.
