Saba (Ft. Smino & LEGIT) • "World In My Hands"
"World In My Hands", can you beat this? Good luck to any other rapper who was planning on releasing music today. Saba may have slowed his output in 2015, but 2016 has him picking up the pace, right on that cusp of stardom where consistent quality could not be more important. And lo and behold, Saba really doesn't make bad songs, period. One of his last tracks, "Soapbox", was particularly flame, a grind-and-shine guitar guillotine. Now he's teamed up with Smino, a rapper out of the Lou' you may have heard of, and who just so happened to have the hottest 2015 in Chicago. Joining them is LEGIT, and there's not much that could top this lineup.
This is the first Saba / Smino connection, one that we are certainly not alone in having waited for. The Pivot Gang and Zero Fatigue rappers are capable of rubber band flows and exercise them here, resulting in a track that lifts you up while still bouncing off the walls. The production is classic Saba / Pivot, whipped up by Saba and frequent collaborator Phoelix, a subtle mix of aquatic sounding keys, xylophone and synths. All in all, "World In My Hands" is a fantastic track that should be heard ASAP. But more importantly, while we have loved his instrumental projects, this is a very promising sign of life for whatever follow-up to his 2014 smash 'Comfort Zone' is lying in wait. Stay tuned, and expect great things to come.
