Round Up • New Releases From eGo Jaleel, Famous Dex, RIO & More
Each week the These Days staff comes across great music from Chicago artists that we could not provide individual features for. In an effort to keep our readers up to date with more of our recent favorites, the Round Up segment provides quick summaries and additional noteworthy content. Check out our latest picks below and feel free to submit a comment if you feel we missed something.
eGo Jaleel (Ft. Lucki Eck$) • "Never Too Much"
eGo Jaleel first caught my attention with his music video for "Riding Around" featuring Chance the Rapper back in 2012 right after #10Day dropped and Chance spread like wildfire. We’ve been rooting for eGo ever since. "Never Too Much" is the latest drop from eGo and features Lucki X (or Eck$, or just Lucki, we don't really know). It’s strange eGo isn’t more of a household name as he's been getting major cosigns and features from Chicago music elite for years. Below the radar, but still very much a problem, there's never too much eGo.
Famous Dex • "Goyard"
There’s only so much you can possibly say about Famous Dex without sounding redundant. As the weeks pass, he is no longer viewed as a breakout newcomer, but rather a Chicago mainstay. The impressive stream of content every week usually hinders my creativity when writing about him, as it often feels like weekly issue of déjà vu but I digress. Without further ado here is Famous Dex’ latest track "Goyard" featuring Rich The Kid.
Goodbye Tomorrow • "Runway Model / Perle de Gris"
Goodbye Tomorrow is one of those groups with an expansive music catalog that I was unaware of prior to today. Delving deeper into the past, I was shocked that I have never heard of them before, yet they've racked up an extremely impressive amount of views over the span of a year. Just a couple weeks ago, Goodbye Tomorrow released a song with Windy City native, Lucki. Following up that single may have been a tough task for some, but Goodbye Tomorrow has no problem leveling up with a flip of Mike Dean’s highly electro inspired "Perle De Gris" and making it their own in a single called "Runway Model".
RIO • Xan King Cole
RIO and Supa Bwe dropped the first Xan King Cole single over a year ago, but today we get the completed project. Together with our friends 119, RIO prepared an 8 track EP with features in addition to Supa from Angelenah, Qari, Dally Auston and others. Nothing if not real as hell, Xan King Cole is a peek inside the life of a hustler.
Wave Chapelle (Ft. Joey Purp) • "Lately (Mano Remix)"
The original "Lately" was one of the first songs that really put me on to Milwaukee native Wave Chapelle. Nearly a year later, Treated Crew's Mano breathes new life into the single with his own re-imagining and a new guest verse from Mr. Right Now, Joey Purp. Both Wave and Purp have put out really dope projects lately, it's only right we get to celebrate them on the same track. Check out W⚡️ and iiiDrops right away if you haven't already.
Weasel Sims • "Carried By 6"
Chicago is one of the most dangerous places, especially with the high spike of violence during the summer. Weasel Sims’ new track "Carried by 6" addresses these issues and dissects the notion that “it’s better to be in jail than dead”. The hook, “I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6” alludes to the twelve members of the jury and the six pallbearers in a funeral. Weasel Sims’ Prey 4 Paris is slated to drop on June 22nd.
