T. Gaines • "Slide Thru"
Words by Allen Hotchkiss
T. Gaines has been relatively quiet since dropping "Change Up/For The Better" last November but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been working on something. Since wrapping up the “Ultimate Release Tour” with intergalactic producers Exmag, T. Gaines has hit us with "Slide Thru", the first release from his upcoming album. Working with producer Teddy Roxpin on this one, Gaines uses his vintage melodic style to remind us that he’s doing big things. What stands out the most is the way Gaines maintains a level of humility & vulnerability while still keeping a hard edge.
The track takes a smooth, almost R&B tone but I don’t want to necessarily box it into that genre because, well, genre limitations are the worst. Gaines’ unique ability to mix lucid lyricism with groovy melodies is what sets him apart from other up & comers and Slide Thru is another great example of that. Check it out below and keep your eyes peeled for the full album later this year!
