Round Up • Recent Releases from Supa Bwe, Via Rosa, Twin Peaks & More
Each week the These Days staff comes across great music from Chicago artists that we could not provide individual features for. In an effort to keep our readers up to date with more of our recent favorites, the Round Up segment provides quick summaries and additional noteworthy content. Check out our latest picks below and feel free to submit a comment if you feel we missed something.
Legit • "...it's not a Lexus"
He’s been relatively quiet since last summer, so we’re excited to hear a new release from Chicago hip-hop artist Legit. In “...It’s not a Lexus,” Legit complements a bluesy, bass-centric beat with his characteristic deep voice. Listen to him rap below, as we wait for more news from this talented vocalist to surface.
Supa Bwe • "Bruce Lee"
Back just a few days after releasing the instant classic “Aladdin” along with Kembe X, Supa Bwe returns with yet another new track. Lacing together production by JXHNSCXTT with energetic vocals by Supa, “Bruce Lee” presents us with the next exciting installment of Supa’s upcoming Finally Dead tape. As consistently as he’s has been dropping songs from that project, we can only gauge that it’s set to drop soon. Until that day comes, Supa fans can tide themselves over with these mighty previews.
Twin Peaks • "Have You Ever (Live)"
What do bands do when they’ve released a ton of tracks, but the people just can’t get enough of their music? They release live versions of their sets, to tide us over for a little longer. At least that’s what Twin Peaks is doing with their newest release, “Have You Ever?” This is the first song they are releasing leading up to the full length Urbs in Horto, which is set to be their live double LP set to make its debut digitally on March 31st and on vinyl May 5th. This song was performed live at Thalia Hall in December of 2016. Twin Peaks is also currently on an international tour, but if you’re not able to see them live in concert, be sure to check out their upcoming live recordings.
Warhol.ss (Ft. Maxo Kreme)
Never shying away from a feature or collab, Warhol.ss has teamed up with a young Houston up and comer Maxo Kream to create their newest track “Jugg Mane.” The song also features a steady, but distinctly eerie, beat by Indianapolis based blkyth. Consistent production paves the way for Warhol.ss and Maxo to rap confidently, while adjusting their flows at the same time. Check out the song below; it’s a preface to the rest of the year, which promises to be a big one for Warhol.ss.
Via Rosa • "Make It Love" & "Scab (demo)"
It’s really exciting to see Via Rosa, Chicago based singer/songwriter, releasing so much music lately. Whether it is with THEMpeople, her musical duo DRAMA, or on her own, this is one talented lady who never seems to be at a loss of words, and she doesn’t miss a beat. This week alone she hit us with two simultaneous releases called “SCAB (demo)” and “Make It Love.” Listen to Via sing tenderly over ambient production by AIR TECH SANI on “SCAB (demo),” and over her own production on “Make It Love.”
