Loona Dae has emerged as one of Chicago's most impressive local singers, a mind and a voice slinking through your headphones with confident patience, the self-knowledge that her singing and songwriting are top notch. Her name is one you'll see on our site often, because she's consistently out there performing, impressing, getting it. Now she's just released her Phases EP, an impressive, soulful forray into Loona Dae's life. If you haven't familiarized with the Chicago singer yet, this release marks an excellent opportunity for the uninitiated.
Phases EP offers 6 tracks of vocal demonstration and inner exploration. What makes Loona Dae's voice stand out is it's casual vibe, and she never feels like she's singing at you but talking with you, a conversational EP that the listener becomes a part of. The production is an important aspect of this, lush, bass-y, and confined to the background for the most part. It's the grass she walks in barefoot, versus a wall of sound overpowering Loona's thoughtful words. This is the Loona Dae show, and other than a fantastic feature from Murph Watkins, she runs the project 100%.
