Round Up • New Releases From Stephen, Leslie Marie, Dee Lilly & More

Each week the These Days staff comes across great music from Chicago artists that we could not provide individual features for. In an effort to keep our readers up to date with more of our recent favorites, the Round Up segment provides quick summaries and additional noteworthy content. Check out our latest picks below and feel free to submit a comment if you feel we missed something.

Cho • "807-902"

Singer songwriter Cho, originally from Canada (reppin’ the 807 Ontario and 902 Nova Scotia area codes in her song title), has made her way over to Classick Studios to work with the Brooklyn based producer Ignorvnce. Ignorvnce, who has a lot of versatility as a producer, tones down his production for this single, creating a smooth compilation of sounds that ebbs and flows easily under Cho’s graceful vocals. Her emotion is apparent in her singing, and her verses quickly become unforgettable. She’s definitely a lady to keep on your radar as she strives to make a name for herself in the scene.

Dee Lilly (Ft. Xone White) • "Impressions"

Both members of the record label, Fête, which has been bringing us a plethora of great singles lately, including Daryn Alexus' “Wildflower” project that was produced by Dee Lilly a. Now, Washington D.C. native Dee Lilly has teamed up with Chicago based Xone White, to create his newest single “Impressions.” Dee Lilly creates a dark seeded beat that drives the flow of Xone’s sensual crooning. They come together to create a blissful R&B utopia where all is love and attraction. Check out the song below.

Leslie Marie • "On Baby"

As the next installment of a series curated by These Days almuni neonpajamas, comes the song “On Baby.” It brings together vocalist Leslie Marie with producers Jaro and Joe Nora, to create a downtempo rhythmic vibe track. The series is sort of an experimental one; neonpajamas invites a few select local artists to come over to Jaro’s own home studio where the artists mix, collaborate, and create together. “On Baby” is the third segment of this series, and it’s already got us excited to see what these guys have coming up next.

Saint Millie • "$anta Muerta"

Chicagoan Saint Millie is back on the scene with his first single following up last year's “Adderall”. “$anta Muerte” is produced by Martin $ky, who is constantly popping up all across the board of the local music scene; if you haven’t heard his work before, it’s about time you listened up. Millie calls his song "Santa Muerte", aka Holy Death, which may be an ode to the Mexican diety of death; a symbol that is often referenced in association with Día de Muertos. Really, the two Chicago artists are just sending a message to their adversaries; they’re out to kill the competition.

Stephen (Ft. Saba, Ravyn Lenae, The O'My's, J.P. Floyd) • "Crossfire Part III"

Closing out his three part “Crossfire” song series, L.A. based artist Stephen concludes on a strong, but poignant note; “We will not stop singing until our voices are heard.” In Part III, Stephen brings in locals Saba, Ravyn Lenae, The O’My’s, and J.P. Floyd to drive his point home. He couldn't have found a better group of collaborators, as all of these up-and comers have belayed similar messages of their own.
