Rich Jones & The O'My's • "Overcoats"
Rich Jones and The O’my’s are not only seminal and prolific figures in Chicago’s music scene, but they’re also very good friends, which makes the fact that they only have a couple of collaborations even more surprising.
“Overcoats” is an evocative tune inspired by those chilly evenings spent close to Lake Michigan and the supergroup’s midwestern sensibilities. It’s easy to close your eyes and picture Rich Jones and his lady as they sit side by side looking out over the water, contemplating the ending of winter and still being overwhelmed by the season’s sense of solitude.
Even with melancholy in the air, The O’My’s manage to fill their songs with warm melodies and Jones’ finds his voice right at home over Maceo’s guitar and Nick Hennessy’s organ.
Over the years, the two camps have helped connect the city’s musicians to make great art. Hopefully, “Overcoats” is the beginning of a consistent string of collaborations between them.
