Chance the Rapper's musical tribute to Muhammad Ali at the EPSYs last night turned out even more beautiful than we could have imagined. Following a short speech in remembrance of Ali by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the stage lights went dark and a video screen surrounded by stars began a powerful montage filled with audio clips and photos of the late legend. After a moment, a mic lowers from the ceiling, as it would to begin a boxing match, and Chance stepped out in an all black suit and his Chance 3 cap. Joined by Peter Cottontale, Donnie Trumpet, Jamila Woods, Stix, Teddy Jackson & more, Chicago's son starts off with a Sinatra-esque croon leading us into a song focused on looking back on a life well lived and readiness to meet God. The song's bridge sees Chance channel Muhammad himself, managing to capture Ali's magical confidence and way with words - "ain't no one prettier, ain't no one wiser, ain't no one better, better" - so much so one might not be surprised if it was a quote from the Champ himself. The performance made for an incredible end to an already memorial night. Watch it below.
