Round Up • New Releases From JustWise, Beach Jesus, Iris Temple & More
Each week the These Days staff comes across great music from Chicago artists that we could not provide individual features for. In an effort to keep our readers up to date with more of our recent favorites, the Round Up segment provides quick summaries and additional noteworthy content. Check out our latest picks below and feel free to submit a comment if you feel we missed something.
Beach Jesus • "Woodlands"
119 continues the tear that is their Countdown 2 Midnight project, a constantly expanding album that features Chicago's best and brightest. I believe "Woodlands", from Beach Jesus, is the album's fourth track, and for Beach Jesus fans this is one you won't want to music. The group has been quiet in recent memory, but "Woodlands" is a return to form that any Beach Jesus lover will keep coming back to.
Dion Jetson & SeVen1 • "Money Trees 3"
Never listened to Dion Jetson or SeVen1 but their track "Money Trees 3" leaves an impression. There's something almost spiritual about it, between the vibrant production and honest flow and lyricism that you're hearing from Dion Jetson and SeVen1. "Money Trees 3" is a hard song to put into words but just know that it's going to surprise you.
Iris Temple • "Lemonade"
We love local duo Iris Temple, and their new release "Lemonade" drives that notion home. Another example of a musicians escaping any one particular genre, Iris Temple uses influences from all over and crafts this harmonious tune packed with awesome instrumentation including trumpet from their friend Thomas Keene. Click play, put the bullshit aside and sip lemonade with Iris Temple, it's refreshing.
JustWise • "Genius Chryst"
You might be familiar with JustWise as part of Chicago duo The Highest Low, but he's off on his own this time around. Releasing the Ian Hitre directed video for "Genius Chryst", the title track from an upcoming solo EP from the emcee, JustWise. "Genius Chryst" is a legitimately cool track and video, with quick shots in smoke and shadow to complement the wild flow from JustWise, all on top of a crazy beat that meets somewhere between videogame and carnival. Check it out and stay tuned for more JustWise.
Radamiz • "Won't I" (Prod. Ongaud)
Another track from 119's Countdown 2 Midnight! This track is called "Won't I", a East Coast via Midwest track featuring Brooklyn rapper Radamiz flowing over a beat from one of These Days' production favorites, Ongaud. Radamiz is new to us, but if you know Ongaud you know that their music is always fresh and then some. And on that topic, the same thing can be said 119's Countdown 2 Midnight. We can't stop posting this stuff!
Säge The 64th Wonder (Ft. Orlando Coolridge) • "A Stardust Memory"
Säge The 64th Wonder has really stepped up his game in the last year, bringing a sound that's a little old school, a little new school and all Säge. The track is called "A Stardust Memory" and features Orlando Coolridge, both with notably good verses. Production is from Emperor Bohe, who brings the vibe of a kung-fu flick to the song. This is the last song to be released before Säge drops his new LP on Christmas, SAGEWAV.
