With Words From Peter Bonamici

Each week the These Days staff comes across great music from Chicago artists that we could not provide individual features for. In an effort to keep our readers up to date with more of our recent favorites, the Round Up segment provides quick summaries and additional noteworthy content. Check out our latest picks below and feel free to submit a comment if you feel we missed something.

Cassius Tae • "Found Myself"

Cassius Tae caught my attention about a year ago with his music video for "Maybe Maybe". My first impression was askew as his fun-loving attitude gradually evolved into a more mature and in-depth outlook on the world. He did a lot of growing in just a few months, and he’s back and better than ever with his new track "Found Myself". Backed up with a menacing beat, Cassius Tae’s wordplay and flow blend for a great musical experience.

Musa Reems - "Not With Gang"

We're used to hearing Musa as part of Chicago duo Children of I.L.L.I.O.S., but he's off on his own today with a new single "Not With Gang". Pretty appropriate title given the circumstances. Gang or not, Musa delivers an anthem alongside producer NversivE for his first ever solo track. Plenty more on the way though, Where The Sun Never Rises will be shining in the near future.

Rich The Kid (Ft. Migos & Famous Dex) • "Real Deal"

Rich The Kid. Migos. Famous Dex. Nuff Said. The amount of sheer energy you can here from these artists on each verse is astounding. Not only do these rappers have amazing synergy but they all bring a little something unique too, most notably Offset of Migos. "Real Deal" dropped on Rich The Kid’s 13 track project, Trap Talk, equipped with an all star cast of features such as a Ty Dolla $ign, Kodak Black, and Cash Carti. Be sure to check it out.

Shy Glizzy (Ft. G Herbo) • "Too Far"

The DC – Chicago connection in hip-hop has been strong for years now, and this is particularly true in the world of street raps.  The duo bridging the East Coast – Midwest gap this time around is composed of Shy Glizzy  and G Herbo with their track “Too Far”. It’s a great song, with quite the contrast between nasally and gruff sounds vocally, and the two rappers' energy matches each other bar for bar. With a beat from acclaimed Atlanta producer Goose, it’s a heavy track that’ll be perfect for a turn-up or two.

TLNTD • "Villa"

TLNTD may be new to you, but you’ll have to take his name at its word. The Chicago artist has an effortless flow, one of those rappers who is spitting way more intensely than you first realize, simply because it sounds so casual. “Villa” is a dedication to a clothing store of the same name, recently named in Complex’s top 10 retail stores. More importantly, TLNTD just released a mixtape that should be heard by any hip-hop fans, chock full of bars and extremely interesting production. It’s called Who Made It, and you can find it here.

Young 99 • Wizard

Young 99 delivers a grab bag of old and new in his latest project Wizard. If you were unable to catch some of his previous released tracks such as "Everything Is Everything" and "Not Enough", they are included along with six brand new bangers. Young 99 proves himself to be a versatile artist with a diverse soundtrack throughout; whether it be the doo-wop inspired "Aint Got Time" or the darker "One Day", Young 99 has it covered. Be sure to check out the entirety of Wizard for a rollercoaster of emotions.
